IIM Visakhapatnam is the 2015 IIM by the Bay of Bengal, mentored by IIM Bangalore, that moved from Andhra University's campus to a 241-acre campus at Gambhiram, and its students still end hard weeks with roasted corn on RK Beach.

The story of IIM Visakhapatnam

Union Minister Smriti Irani laid the foundation stone for IIM Visakhapatnam on 17 January 2015, and the first PGP batch started in August 2015. IIM Bangalore served as mentor institute, and the early batches studied on Andhra University's campus.

The permanent campus at Gambhiram village spans 241 acres, with classrooms modelled on Harvard Business School's case-method design. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it on 20 February 2024, the same day as the IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya campuses.

Under Director Prof. M. Chandrasekhar, the institute runs a two-year MBA, an executive MBA, a Doctor of Business Administration started in 2019 with IIMB's guidance, and programmes in digital governance and public policy.

What the campus is like socially

Students describe their batch as Mini-India, with classmates from around 18 to 21 states celebrating each other's festivals as one family. Days start early with sessions and surprise quizzes, then move to brainstorming, public speaking and club work, and nights often end with Maggi and case prep.

The city is part of the deal. RK Beach and its hot roasted sweet corn is the unanimous favourite escape, while on campus the lawns, cafeteria and rec room with table tennis, foosball and billiards are where people unwind.

• Samaarambh: The flagship cultural fest. Samaarambh 10.0 ran 27 to 28 February 2026, themed Millennium Dreamland.
• Vriddhi: The annual business conclave run by the seven-club Business Cluster, with keynotes, panels and case competitions.
• Achievers Awards: Awards for academics, sports and all-round excellence, presented during Samaarambh.
