On 9 August 2023 the government announced that the IIM (Amendment) Bill had made NITIE the Indian Institute of Management Mumbai, India's 21st IIM, bringing it under the IIM Act, 2017. Presidential assent followed on 11 August 2023.
Today IIM Mumbai runs MBA programmes in general management, operations and supply chain, sustainability and other tracks, postgraduate diplomas in industrial engineering, and a doctoral programme. NIRF ranked it sixth among business schools in 2024 and 2025.
