IIM Jammu is the 2016 IIM that started its first class in Noida and now sits on a 200-acre campus at Jagti on the Jammu-Srinagar highway, right next to IIT Jammu, with one of the largest club line-ups of any young IIM.

The story of IIM Jammu

IIM Jammu was established in 2016 under the mentorship of IIM Lucknow. Its first PGP batch, planned at 45 students, began on 1 August 2016 at IIM Lucknow's Noida campus, before moving to a transit campus in Jammu while the permanent site was built.

The permanent campus at Jagti, about 18 km from Jammu airport, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 20 February 2024, the same day he inaugurated the IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Visakhapatnam campuses.

Under Director Prof. B.S. Sahay, IIM Jammu has added an IPM for Class 12 students in 2021, specialised MBAs including healthcare management, executive programmes, and a first-of-its-kind six-year BTech and MBA dual degree with IIT Jammu, launched in 2021. In December 2022 it signed an agreement with the University of Ladakh for a transit off-campus in Leh.

What the campus is like socially

IIM Jammu runs 35 student clubs, which is a lot for a young institute, and club identity is a big part of social life. The academic side covers everything from consulting (ESCON) and valuation to sales (Nelaam), while the non-academic side has dance, music, theatre, esports, trekking, podcasting and a heritage club. With IPM students joining straight from school and MBA students arriving later, campus banter between the two cohorts is constant.

Being next door to IIT Jammu shapes daily life. The dual-degree programme ties the two institutes together, and the Jammu-Srinagar highway puts mountain treks and weekend trips within easy reach.

• Empyrean: The flagship annual cultural fest, mixing management battles with music, dance, comedy and fashion. Empyrean 2024 ran 1 to 3 March with Ankit Tiwari and Aditi Sharma performing.
• IPL Auction: A crowd-favourite Empyrean event where teams bid for players in a mock auction.
• Club rush: With 35 clubs to choose from, recruitment season is a rite of passage for every new batch.
• Saahas treks: The adventure club takes students into the hills around Jammu for treks and outdoor sports.
