GMAT Study Partner
Most GMAT takers in India are working professionals prepping after office hours, so the hardest part is not the quant, it is keeping the habit alive past week three.
How people prep for this today
The GMAT Focus Edition is three 45-minute sections, quantitative reasoning, verbal reasoning and data insights, 64 questions in all, scored from 205 to 805. You can take it online or at a test centre and book a slot almost any time of year, which sounds convenient and also means there is no fixed date forcing you to keep going.
Indian takers are mostly two to six years into work, aiming at ISB, one-year programmes like IIM Ahmedabad's PGPX, or schools abroad. Prep runs through official practice tests, prep companies, r/GMAT, and GMAT Club, whose long-running 'looking for a study buddy' thread is full of people posting their target score and time zone.
A good GMAT partner trades data insights sets, reviews each other's error logs, and does weekend mocks under real timing. The vocabulary is its own: Focus Edition, DI, sectional percentile, bookmark and review, the application round deadlines.
Why finding the right peer is hard
Forum buddy threads match on time zone and target score, not on whether you can actually meet on a Saturday morning or whether your work hours line up. Most of those pairings fade within a few weeks. Colleagues rarely know you are applying, and many people keep their MBA plans quiet at work, which makes finding someone nearby who is on the same timeline even harder.
How Zyber fits
Zyber can help GMAT takers find verified peers nearby, in the same city or office district, who are prepping on a similar timeline and target, for weekend mocks, error-log reviews and steady weekday check-ins. It is not a prep company or admissions consultant and makes no claim about your score or your admits. It only helps you find a real person to prep with.
Campuses where this crowd is deep
A few campuses have enough serious people prepping that finding a matched partner is realistic:
- Indian School of Business admits through GMAT and GRE, so Hyderabad has a deep pool of applicants and alumni who know this prep cycle well.
- IIM Ahmedabad runs the one-year PGPX for experienced professionals, a common target for GMAT takers in India.
- IIM Bangalore runs its one-year EPGP for experienced professionals in a city full of tech workers prepping for GMAT after work.

FAQ: GMAT Study Partner
How do I find a GMAT study partner?+
GMAT Club's study buddy thread and r/GMAT are the usual starting points, but partners who live nearby and share your work schedule tend to last longer. Zyber can help you find verified peers in your city on a similar timeline.
Is a GMAT study partner worth it?+
For most working professionals, yes, mainly for consistency and honest error-log reviews. The format itself is self-study friendly, but the habit is easier to keep with someone.
What is the GMAT Focus Edition format?+
It has three 45-minute sections, quantitative reasoning, verbal reasoning and data insights, with 64 questions and a total score from 205 to 805. You can take it online or at a test centre.
How do working professionals prepare for GMAT?+
Most do short weekday sessions and longer weekend mocks over a few months. Pairing with someone on the same schedule helps protect those weekend blocks.
Should I take GMAT or GRE for MBA in India?+
Many Indian programmes such as ISB accept both, so check each school's requirements. See our GRE and IELTS guide if you are leaning towards GRE.
Does Zyber guarantee a GMAT score?+
No. Zyber only helps you find verified peers nearby to prep with and makes no claim about your score or admits.
