Your crit group knows exactly how good your work is. Almost nobody outside your studio has any idea you exist. Zyber is a real-time, proximity-based social and networking app for ambitious young people in India. The problem, named properly

Design education runs on the studio. Long projects, shared workspaces, a critique culture where your batchmates see the work while it is still bad, not just the polished deck at the end. That proximity builds a closeness most degrees never get near. It is also a trap, because your entire creative community ends up being the twenty or forty people who happened to get assigned to your studio.

Step outside that studio and the discipline scatters. A UX designer at one college has no easy way to find a type designer or a product designer at another, or a working professional a few years ahead who could actually look at a portfolio and tell them the truth about it. Design Instagram shows you finished work. It does not show you who is fifteen minutes away and free this evening to talk through a problem you are both stuck on.

Then you graduate, and the studio disappears completely. The degree show is the last time your whole cohort is in one room together. After that you are one designer inside one company, and the entire built-in community that made design school bearable, the crits, the late nights, the people who understood what you were doing without an explanation, is gone. Nobody rebuilds it for you. You have to go find it.

What Zyber does

Verified profiles only. Which is why more than 75% of conversations started get a reply, against 10 to 20% on comparable platforms, and why 70% of the network is women. Reply-rate and gender-mix figures are Zyber's own in-app data, not a third-party survey.
