The story of National Institute of Design, Andhra Pradesh

NID Andhra Pradesh was established on 7 September 2015. It was first known as the National Institute of Design, Vijayawada, and later renamed for Amaravati.

Until December 2023 it ran from a temporary campus at Acharya Nagarjuna University on the Guntur-Vijayawada highway. Its permanent 50-acre campus at Sakhamuru village in Thullur Mandal opened in early 2024. The NID Act of 2019 let it award a B.Des degree in place of the earlier Graduate Diploma Programme in Design.

What the campus is like socially

This is a small, studio-led campus in a new capital region still taking shape around it. Students work across industrial, communication, and textile and apparel design, and the NID tradition of learning by doing sets the pace.

Vijayawada and Guntur are the nearest cities for weekends, while daily life revolves around studios, workshops and hostels.
