IIT JAM Study Partner

IIT JAM is a one-day, three-hour exam that decides your master's seat, and most aspirants are prepping for it during the final year of a BSc with nobody else in class doing the same.

Last updated: July 2026

How people prep for this today

JAM 2027 is organised by IIT Kharagpur and scheduled for February 14, 2027. Chemistry, geology and mathematics run in the forenoon session, and biotechnology, economics, mathematical statistics and physics in the afternoon, so a candidate can write two papers only if they fall in different sessions. The score feeds MSc and related admissions at the IITs and several other institutes.

Most aspirants are final-year BSc students, plus some droppers. Prep runs through online coaching, YouTube problem-solving channels, subject Telegram groups and test series, with a strong focus on previous year papers since the question style is quite consistent.

A JAM partner is usually someone from the same subject: two physics or maths students splitting topics, doing timed PYQ sets, and talking each other through the working. The shorthand is specific: MCQ, MSQ and NAT question types, the PYQ grind, the CCMN counselling round, JAM versus CUET PG.

Why finding the right peer is hard

In many colleges, only a handful of students in a BSc batch take JAM seriously, and they may not even know about each other. Those in smaller towns can be the only aspirant on campus. Big Telegram groups are good for doubt-solving but do not help with the daily, focused problem practice that a two-person partnership makes routine.

How Zyber fits

Zyber can help JAM aspirants find verified peers nearby in the same subject and cycle, on campus or in their city, for timed PYQ sessions, topic splits and weekly check-ins through final year. It is not a coaching program or test series and makes no claim about your JAM score, rank or admission. It only helps you find a real person to practise with.

Campuses where this crowd is deep

A few campuses have enough serious people prepping that finding a matched partner is realistic:

  • IIT Kharagpur is organising JAM 2027 and admits master's students through it.
  • IIT Bombay runs MSc programmes filled through JAM, and its master's students prepped through this same final-year grind.
  • Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore also uses JAM scores for admissions, so its students know the PYQ-heavy prep routine well.
