The story of Shiv Nadar University

HCL Technologies founder Shiv Nadar set up the university in 2011 through the Shiv Nadar Foundation, building a research university from scratch on open land in Dadri rather than taking over an existing institute.

Nikhil Sinha was the first Vice-Chancellor, followed by Rupamanjari Ghosh from 2016 and Dr Ananya Mukherjee, formerly Provost at the University of British Columbia, from 2022.

On 3 August 2022 the Ministry of Education named Shiv Nadar University an Institution of Eminence, making it the youngest university in India to receive the status. It ranked 85th overall and 57th among universities in NIRF 2025.

SNU is a campus where you live, not just study. Hostels, academic blocks, the sports complex and the dining spaces sit close together, so you bump into classmates, professors and club friends all day. That closeness makes the community tight, and it also means news travels fast.
