FMS is the University of Delhi's business school on North Campus, founded in 1954 and known for very low fees and a strong placement record. There are no big hostel blocks, so student life spills into Kamla Nagar and the wider North Campus, which makes it feel more like a city school than a gated B-school.

The story of FMS Delhi

FMS was set up in 1954 when the University of Delhi abolished the commerce department of Delhi College of Engineering and created a Faculty of Management Studies in its place. Its first professors were trained at Stanford Graduate School of Business, and it is often described as the first institution in India to offer a formal MBA degree.

For decades FMS ran its own entrance exam before switching to CAT, and today its programmes include the full-time MBA, an Executive MBA, an Executive MBA in Healthcare Administration and a small doctoral programme.

FMS has stayed a public, university-run school, which keeps fees far below most top B-schools. In 2025 the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework ranked its MBA second in the country.

What the campus is like socially

Two years at FMS are intense and compact. Most of the action happens inside one building on North Campus, so seniors and juniors cross paths constantly, and case-competition teams, club projects and placement prep keep everyone busy. Students describe the culture as collaborative, with peer learning and alumni mentoring baked into the routine.

Since FMS has very limited on-campus housing, most students live in PGs and flats around Kamla Nagar, known to everyone as KNags. That turns the market into an extended common room for late-night food runs and group study, and the rest of Delhi, from Old Delhi food lanes to corporate offices, is a metro ride away.
