Ask anyone which colleges in India produce the founders, the case-competition winners, the future consultants, and you will get the same twenty or so names back almost every time. That list is not wrong, exactly. It is just a description of where recruiter pipelines happened to form years ago, not a current measurement of where ambitious people actually are.
Density, not ability
The well-known IITs and IIMs, a handful of law schools, a few Delhi University colleges: these campuses cluster enough ambitious people in one physical place that founders and recruiters built their pipelines around them, and then mostly never rebuilt those pipelines as the country's talent base widened. That is a density story, not a merit story. Ambitious, capable people are not actually sorted neatly onto twenty campuses. They are everywhere: smaller cities, less-famous colleges inside big ones, programs no ranking list bothers to mention.
The cost of that mismatch falls on individuals in a very specific way. Being at a college outside the well-known circuit usually means no senior three years ahead of you already working at the firm you want, no built-in industry pipeline, and a nagging, accurate sense that the real network is happening on some other campus, without you.
What proximity actually fixes
Recruiter pipelines are slow to rebuild because they run on relationships and habit. Matching technology has no such inertia. A system built to match people on real proximity and genuine shared interest, rather than which name is printed on a degree, does not carry the historical bias a twenty-year-old recruiting pipeline does. It looks at who is actually nearby and actually building something, and treats that as the entire signal.
The opportunity map in India is lopsided by history, not by where the ambitious people actually are.
The Signal
This will not rebuild a recruiting pipeline by itself, and no single app should claim it can. But proximity-based matching is one real lever: it connects a founder-minded student at a college nobody name-drops with the wider network wherever they happen to be, on the same terms as anyone at a more famous address. As that kind of matching reaches more cities and campuses, the tier-2 talent gap stops being a permanent feature of the landscape and starts looking like what it always was: a distribution problem, solvable with the right infrastructure.
